"Honors" are like "Delicacies"
I wrote before about how a lot of low grade publishing survives because of our egos. Here's another way to put it. Just like different cultures label their gross food that nobody wants to eat as "delicacies" (1, 2, 3, yucky!), scientists label their crummy jobs that nobody wants to do as "honors". Sometimes stuff really is an honor, but if someone asks you to do something that is a lot of work under the guise of it being an honor, well, think twice. It's probably more work than honor.
